Google, the search engine giant, hosts and develops a number of web-based services and products. Most of the Google products were strong rivalries to its competitors but a few of them couldn’t win over its competitors yet. Here we have gathered a list of 6 such google products that haven’t succeeded over its competitors yet.
1. Google Buzz
Google Buzz is a messaging and social networking product from Google. This was designed to be integrated into the company’s web-based email service. Google Buzz was developed as an attempt to compete with Twitter. Buzz faced serious criticism as it failed to provide sufficient privacy to the email program contents. Google Buzz publicly discloses the contacts in the users Gmail account.
2. Orkut
Orkut, an important social networking web site started in early operated by Google is much popular in India and Brazil. The website is named after its creator, Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten. Orkut could not win the battle over Facebook or Myspace yet. May be Orkut should try farmville and some good Facebook apps to capture some good chunk of uses.
3. Android
It is quite unknown why Google being a web tycoon entered into the cell phone OS business. Google’s Android outnumbered iPhone sales in US and China as well. But with the launch of iPhone 4, Apple retained almost all of its customers who were trying to give Android a try. The fight still goes on about who is successful but as of now the Androids are lagging a few steps behind the iPhone 4.
4. Google Answers
Google Answers has not been able to trounce its competitor Yahoo Answers. Google Answers works in a different way. In Yahoo Answers, all users can reply to a question asked by any of its users but in Google Answers the answer is given by experts and not by the users. Now, Google Answers takes no new question which was another reason for its fall back. Moreover it was a paid service.
5. Google chrome
Google entered the browser war with the launch of Google Chrome. Google Chrome works based on WebKit layout engine and application framework. An attacker by combining a flaw in WebKit with a known Java bug and some smart social engineering, could easily trick users into launching an executable Java file. Such flaws pulled back Google Chrome in the browser war.
6. Google talk
Google talk is an IM application used along with Orkut, Gmail and similar Google’s web based applications. It is also used as a separate IM application but the popularity of Google talk is far behind that of its adversary, the Yahoo Messenger. Yahoo accounts for 70 percentage share of IM application users in the world.
lol.. everything is true..
They may also have many products in their labs did not released to public due to the fear of fail. I heard that some top google executive said to their employees that stop building more products and focus on current products..
Cool observation…
hey but y Google chrome is here in this list i feel chrome should not be here and google wave is missing here yy???????????
I’ve been a PC for a while now, which means that I’ve been in love with Internet Explorer. I have been opposed to any other browser, even Firefox. But I gave into my buddy and tried Chrome. Its great and could be considered the best browser out there. I’d have to agree it should not be on this list.
