The worldwide data center provider, Equinix, Inc. made an announcement recently regarding Amazon Web Services’ accessibility in IBX’s (International Business Exchange) Tokyo and Singapore data centers. The course of action was the direct result of immense demand from clients, who required a straight connection to the AWS cloud.
According to Chris Sharp, General Manager, Content and Digital Media for Equinix, “With AWS Direct Connect inside Equinix data centers, customers can directly touch the cloud. Many customers can now take advantage of the cost savings of cloud computing. With our successful collaboration with Amazon, Equinix is becoming the de facto ‘cloud hub,’ facilitating direct connections between users and cloud providers.”
In other words, using a direct connection from AWS, users can now link their client based infrastructure to Amazon Web Services. This will enable them to maintain private network links which, in turn, will aid them in cutting costs, enhance output and provide a more consistent flow to their network. Additionally, current Equinix clients can also link to AWS using a cross-connection.
Several enterprises have already availed the new service, one of which is Carpathia Hosting, a managed hosting provider and Equinix partner. The direct connection with the latter has allowed the former to enable Urban Airship, a mobile app distributor, to also utilize a version of the Amazon cloud infrastructure.
“More and more of our enterprise customers are demanding hybrid hosting solutions that combine the benefits of both dedicated infrastructure and cloud infrastructure,” said Jon Greaves, CTO of Carpathia Hosting. “For existing AWS customers, Carpathia Hosting uses AWS Direct Connect to deliver them the benefits of having their dedicated infrastructure and AWS’s cloud services managed by a single provider.”
