.CO Internet domain name registry, released a statement on Thursday stating that .CO domain crossed the 1 million mark for domain name registration. The press release claimed that the one millionth .CO domain name was registered by Web hosting provider GoDaddy. The .CO domain name was established in July 2010 and has received a great deal of publicity with various marketing promotions by organizations like Pappas Group as well as putting up a billboard in Times Square and an advertisement of GoDaddy Super Bowl. Online organization Overstock was also offered by the domain to change its name to O.CO. which it did, buying the one letter domain in July for a total of $350,000.
Just lately a deal was signed by Amazon for an unknown sum to purchase domain names A.CO, K.CO, Z.CO and Cloud.CO.
“Entrepreneurs and innovative businesses around the globe are adopting .CO web addresses at an unprecedented pace, way beyond my initial expectations,” Juan Diego Calle, CEO of .CO Internet said in a statement. “To hit this milestone in less than a year is a great testament to the hard work and dedication of our team – and especially to the foresight of all of those who believed in .CO from the very beginning. From our retail and business partners; to the trademark and domain communities; to all the people, businesses and brands who are building their futures on .CO – we owe you a million thanks.”
To promote its services further, .CO Internet has authorized a number of short films titled “Under the Bulb” to be shown at an exclusive event that would take place in New York on June 9th. The short films both two minute long, are a part of .CO promotional campaign. An example is the billboard standing in Times Square, which states “When an idea hits own it.”
“From startup to Super Bowl in seven months flat, we are a company of entrepreneurs,” Lori Anne Wardi, director of global communications of the .CO Registry stated. “Under the Bulb is our way of honoring the fact that behind each of these one million domain registrations, are one million singular ideas with the potential to change the world.”
The records state that half of the .CO domain names have been registered to North America alone, while Europe has a total of 25 percent registered names.
A report by ADI News claimed that music.co was purchase for a staggering $30,000, creditcard.co for $17,000, pizza.co for $15,000 and recipes.co for a total of $5,600.
