According to a report by CNN, Megaupload users can now breathe a sigh of relief as the recently banned site recently opened its data bases to return their saved files. The video file sharing entity is fairly confident it can extract all the files without deleting them. This welcome piece of info comes just a few days after the organization was accused of allowing pirated material to be hosted on its site.

According to the federal prosecutor, any such material found on the website will be automatically deleted this week. However, it has also been revealed that server owners have agreed to wait before eradicating questionable material, until a solution is sought to the dilemma.

“Carpathia and Cogent agreed to preserve consumer data for additional time of at least two weeks so Megaupload can work with US on proposal,” attorney Ira Rothken said late Monday on Twitter. Carpathia Hosting is currently engaged with Electronic Frontier Foundation to aid users in retrieving their data.

“Although Carpathia does not have, and has never had, access to the content on Megaupload’s servers, the hosting provider wants to assist lawful users of the Megaupload service by promoting EFF and its nonprofit legal services,” the company said in a statement. Additionally, even legal files may be deleted starting this Thursday.

“It is our understanding that the hosting companies may begin deleting the contents of the servers beginning as early as February 2, 2012,” U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride said in a letter filed in federal court.

According to the letter under consideration, federal investigators have already completed their examination of Megaupload’s file centers via search warrants. Incidentally, they also copied some data but refrained from eliminating any.

Currenlty, seven people belonging to the online video hosting giant have been found guilty of operating a global “international organized criminal enterprise” allowing users to upload and share pirated content, music, movies etc. The charges have been refuted by Megaupload lawyers profusely.

According to a study conducted by One.com, more and more Europeans are opting for online storage options nowadays. Apparently, 63% of Britishers prefer Cloud Drives for their online business, while 40% of Belgians make use of such services on a daily basis.
