Intermedia Surpasses Milestone for Exchange Hosting

Now hosting more than 200,000 premium Microsoft Exchange mailboxes, email hosting provider Intermedia, has reported signs of growth and optimism among its client base of an estimated 11,000 small and medium sized companies.  The 200,000+ mark is a milestone that puts the company ahead of any competitor providing hosted Exchange services.  While Intermedia hosts more than 400,000 mailboxes in total, its premium mailboxes utilize Microsoft’s complete MAPI license, which also includes a downloadable version of the popular Outlook mail client, the ability to share calender data and other features that serve benefits to business users.

Serguei Sofinski, CEO at Intermedia, says that it is still too early to determine whether or not the economy is truly getting back on track, but the company’s growth indicates that businesses are not simply waiting for things to turn around or reap the benefits of the stimulus package.  Sofinski remarks that Intermedia customers are optimistic about what the future holds and proving it by taking the essential steps needed to improve their business.

In the fourth quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009, Intermedia saw a much slower growth rate in its existing customer base.  While the numbers were higher than the average number of accounts, it is believed that the slow pace was due to staffing cuts that came in response to the ailing economy.  However, in the second quarter, the growth rate for its new accounts grew by more than double from the previous quarter.  The second quarter also saw a growth in revenue per mailbox as existing customers provided the company’s iPhone, Blackberry and Windows Mobile smartphone synchronization capabilities to additional employees.  The steady growth is a sign that more of its customer’s are stabilizing their business operations and moving forward despite the economic downturn.

Now 14 years old, Intermedia is company that has been able to grow organically and profitably without incurring debt.  The company is attributing its consistent quarterly gains to the Exchange Concierge service that manages the transition of customers coming from other hosting providers or in-house servers to Intermedia.  This service is being sited because usually in less than an hour, migrating customers are up and running without disruption of their email and other important files.

Mr. Sonfinski adds that Intermedia is thrilled and passionate about providing small and medium sized businesses with communications and collaboration services a Fortune 500 enterprise can deliver to its employees.  He says the big difference is that these services are designed to be more affordable, easier to set up, use and maintain.  This is the standard Intermedia has set for itself and the best way to help its customers put technology to work for them.

Established in 1995, Intermedia is the leading provider of business email solutions, including hosted Microsoft Exchange, to small and medium sized businesses.  The company specializes in delivering enterprise-class services via its state of the art network infrastructure at a price small and medium sized companies can afford.
