Method to Edit DNS Records in cPanel

Users can now conveniently edit DNS zones avoiding the aggravation and dangers generally related to manually editing DNS zone documents with the latest cPanel web hosting control panel. Your job will become much faster and easier with cPanel hosting automation.

Steps to edit DNS zone:

1. Login to cPanel

2. Go to the ‘Domains’ section. Choose either of the two options:
i) For Simple DNS Zone, select option #3
ii) For Advanced DNS Zone, select option #6

3.  Opt for a domain from the drop-down menu.

4. Provide information for name and address for either an A record or a CNAME record.

Important Note:

A records: Key records which direct users straight to the servers IP address effectively decoding a number address into a human-friendly domain address. For example, your primary URL (mydomain.com) could have its personal A record.

CNAME records: These records are assumed names for other domains or sub-domains. For example, you may use the name ‘email.mydomain.com’ to direct yourself to mydomain.com.

5. Once done editing, click “Add a Record” or “Add CNAME Record”

Steps to edit Advanced DNS zone:

6. Advanced DNS Zone provides an option of three different types of records which can be added, namely, A, CNAME  and TXT. TXT is used for various entries such as SPF records.

7. To enter a record, enter the Name, TTL (Time To Live), Type (A, CNAME or TXT) and the Address.

8. When the changes have been completed, click ‘Add Record’

MX Records

The MX (mail) records are situated in the mail setting in cPanel. For example, if you wish to initiate a cloud email, you will be required to add, both, MX records and CNAME records.

1. Click ‘MX Entry’ in the ‘Mail’ section

2. Select a domain of your choice

3.  Choose ‘Local’ (your personal mail server), ‘Backup’ or ‘Remote’ (e.g. cloud mail server) mail exchanger.

4.  To add a record, highlight the priority (categorize the mail servers, starting with “0”) and destination (domain or remote server)

5. Click on ‘Add New Record’
