The first reason is that it is extremely cheap and the second reason is that you can avail unlimited features with the package. Another important aspect of a shared hosting is the help desk that functions 24×7 to sort out any technical issues instantaneously. But having said all these, shared hosting has its share of woes as well.
Shared hosting is useful only in the case of a personal website or blog i.e. single website only. This means that if you own many numbers of websites or a huge company then opting for shared hosting will be a disaster. There are many problems and glitches associated with shared hosting and all of them are discussed below.
* In shared hosting, a single server is shared by many people. This means that you will be left with limited resources to use in your website. Also you will be finding that the bandwidth of a shared hosting is much lower and this will not do you any world of good and you will be pushed back by the competitors.
* Internet means risk. And in the case of shared hosting, you are extremely susceptible to hacking. The Security for your website is comparably very low. This is the greatest disadvantage with shared hosting.
* As explained earlier, people are drawn to shared hosting simply because of the unlimited features like unlimited bandwidth. But let me tell, this feature is only for namesake and you will not get the maximum bandwidth if the number of users in your shared server is high.
Going for shared hosting is a very good idea if you have plans of owning a small website and a small scale business. But if you wish to upgrade your level, then dedicated hosting is your best bet.
