cPanel Presents Apache Configuration Script

cPanel, the webhosting control panel, has recently introduced its latest Apache configuration script EasyApache. Titled version 3.8.2, it is way better than the previous ones, as it includes support for mod_ruid2 module which enables faster PHP. However, the new script is not exactly operable on all modules, according to cPanel. These include ModMono, modcache, FastCGI and moddiskacache.

The release of the new script involves upgrades to ‘third-party libraries and tools’ along with CloudLinux ARP patches. Besides this, Apache will also enable operation suitability with the module FastCGI.

According to cPanel, server administrators can remake their EasyApache profile by choosing the option ‘apache Update’, which can be found in their WHM accounts. Besides this, they can also retain their existing configurations if they want to.

Cloud Host Cbeyond Completes SSAE 16 SOC 2 Data Center Audit

Cbeyond, a cloud hosting company, revealed last week that it had managed to achieve the Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements 16 SOC 2 repost. The achievement was the result of a successful audit held to examine the company’s control system. Cbeyond’s Louisville and Kentucky data centers, which were purchased as part of MaximumASP, were privy to the same.

The Standard is meant to analyze a data center’s control’s operations and design as compared to international standards. According to Stacy Griggs, (who is the director of client experience for Cbeyond’s cloud services) SSAE 16 SOC 2 has managed to become the go-standard when it comes to examining data centers. The new standard has been adopted as a replacement for the less successful SAS 70 standard.

“The previous standard, which was SAS 70 Type II certification, had a really serious flaw,” says Griggs, “which was that the person being certified decided what criteria, or what auditable control points, they were going to have audited. Of course no-one was going to pick an auditable control point that was something they weren’t any good at.”

The SSAE standard in comparison refers to auditor-set control points during the auditing procedure which include availability, security, privacy etc.

“If you say ‘I want to be audited against those types of control points,’ they will come in and say, ‘here are the auditable criteria we are going to audit you against. How do you meet them?’ This makes it a far more in-depth and far more extensive report than any report I’ve ever been through.”

Cbeyond also is of the opinion that the audit provided it with a holistic overview regarding the data center’s infrastructure, along with the people working in it.

“Anyone who’s publicly traded is almost certain to demand this,” says Griggs. “Anyone who requires PCI or HIPAA compliance – while it’s not formally a requirement for either, it’s something that becomes very important for them. It is a validation that your data center is run in a professional way. You’ve got a third party auditor that is literally staking their reputation on the fact that you’ve done things in a world class type of way.”
