class="wp-caption-text">Prolexic Technologies Warns Dirt Jumper and Introduces Scanner

The renowned DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service), Prolexic, has given a warning to the notorious Dirt Jumper toolkit, regarding its ability to attack website applications. The company has issued a security-scanning feature or application, which can be used to detect the malevolent threat’s presence via its command and control servers. Users interested in downloading the threat advisory and scanner can download it from www.prolexic.com/threatadvisories for free.

DirtJumper is malware software and an evolved form of the Ruskill type viruses. The disreputable toolkit is usually bought from ‘underground’ websites for as cheap as $150. The virus based toolkit is usually known to spread through spam, dubious downloads, exploit kits and even from contaminated systems.

Vice President of Prolexic’s Security Engineering Response team, had this to say, “The Dirt Jumper DDoS toolkit is currently one of the most aggressive malware strains used by DDoS attackers globally,” said Neal Quinn, vice president of operations at Prolexic. “Increasingly, we are seeing this tool used against clients worldwide and it is likely to become more widespread and effective as distribution spreads.”

DDoS has been labeled a high-risk threat by the PLXSERT since it also possesses a high quality control panel which almost any hacker can use. Besides this, the malware also possesses an updated functionality feature, which makes it a high level threat for all systems. This is why Prolexic has launched Dirt Dozer, a public malware scanner which can be used to detect suspect HTTP command and control servers. The scanner can be used free of charge by corporate entities and individual entrepreneurs worldwide via the abovementioned link.

About Prolexic

Prolexic is a renowned and reliable DDoS or Distributed Denial of Service mitigation provider which specializes in protecting organizations against online threats. Since its launch in 2003, a large number of reputable firms have placed their technical safety in their more than capable hands.

Related posts:

GeoTrust, one of the world’s largest digital security certificate provider, announced the launch of its native Anti-Malware Scan service on Thursday. The cloud service, exclusively accessible via Channel Partners, is described as a relatively affordable solution of identifying malware, protecting both web site owners and visitors from possible contamination.

As per the announcement, the new service runs 50 randomly scheduled scans per day, checking websites for both prevalent, and potentially new varieties of malware. “The service provides immediate, detailed alerts that clearly pinpoint malware infections and enable web site owners to eliminate them quickly and easily, helping ensure infected sites are cleaned up as soon as possible,” the accompanying notes stated.

The company believes that adoption of its new Anti-Malware scan would allow website owners to avoid any embarrassing situations that may arise due to inherent weaknesses in their system, stating how, “hackers exploiting web site vulnerabilities using injection, cross-site scripting…and other prevalent attacks unknown to the site owner are the prime methods malware is spread on the internet today.” GeoTrusts scan service would thus allow users to benefit from its expeditious malware identification capabilities by dramatically reducing the chances of any potential contagion – lowering the probability of being blacklisted; steering clear of any bad press that may damage the businesses reputation.

GeoTrust encourages users to advertise their websites newly fortified status by displaying GeoTrusts’ seal of approval as a graphic, on their web page, once they’ve integrated the company’s Anti-Malware Scan into their system.

Symantecs, GeoTrusts parent company, Fran Rosch declared, “web site owners and visitors alike dread the idea of downloading hidden malware and want to be sure they don’t get hacked.” The V.P of Symantecs trust services, further stated, “by working closely with our channel partners to develop a solution tailored to their customers’ needs, Symantec is maximizing the resources of the channel while positioning its partners to provide an innovative yet simple and affordable security option for web site owners.”

Symantec revealed the discovery of a new Stuxnet-esque malware on Tuesday. If left unchecked, researchers believe the Duqu, which shares most of Stuxnets code, to be capable of wrecking similar, or even greater, havoc as its predecessor previously did.

Related posts:

Website Hosting)

Security experts recently published information that Apple has been fighting fake online security vendors who target Mac computers. Apple recently issued a security advisory to its users warning them of a recent scam which affects Mac computers with nefarious software that informs them their computer has been infected with a virus. In the end, the goal is to acquire their credit card number and other pertinent personal information.

The First Major Virus Campaign for Mac

This is one of the first major campaigns featuring malicious code that has been launch specifically against Macintosh equipment. In the past, cyber criminals have always targeted Windows operating system machines which are running on nine out of every ten computers in the world. However, as the number of users with Macs grows, the company has become a much more attractive target.

How to Become Infected

The fake anti-virus software is downloaded by users when they click links from fake and tainted search engine results which are popular and look genuine. The virus further spreads when users manually click links from emails, Facebook messages and Tweets which lead them to nefarious websites. In most instances, the browser automatically downloads and launches the installer to the software. If users are aware of this, they should instantly cancel the process and do not enter the administrator password.

The Release of a Mac OS X Update

Apple representatives further stated they will be releasing an update for the operating system in the next several days to protect users from this nasty source code. The updated of Mac OS X will automatically search for and remove Mac Defender malware code and other known variants. Further, the update will immediately warn users if they are in the process of downloading this virus.

How to Eliminate the Virus

Until that occurs, Apple has also released exactly how to clean user’s machines that have been infected by the malicious code. The virus has several names based on type of program downloaded including, “MacDefender”, “MacProtector” and “MacSecurity”, all three of which will install the annoying and nasty virus without the user being aware. Apple also told users to “force quit” their web browser if notifications appear.

These types of viruses and malware have been plaguing Windows users for many years and has cost millions of dollars in lost productivity. Mac appears to be off to an excellent start with safeguarding their users through an effective software update.

Related posts:

<a

This program came up in retaliation to the explosion of spam on Facebook which spreads suspicious links, cheating users by tempting them with free of charge offers or access to previously unknown videos.

MyPageKeeper, on Facebook, is a free program which keeps surveillance on all profiles and is responsible for their safety. All wall-posts, news feeds and links uploaded by users and their friends are consistently monitored. When some suspicious malware is tracked, MyPageKeeper warns the users and allows them to remove that content from their profiles.

“Facebook is the new web. Hackers have realized this, and they have started using it to distribute malware and conduct identity theft”, says Md. Sazaddur Rahman, graduate student at UCR. “Facebook provides a fertile ground to spread malware, since users trust links and posts seemingly from their friends.”

“StopTheHacker is very pleased to partner with UCR in this effort, as it is a natural fit for the company”, says Dr. Anirban Banerjee (PhD UCR), co-founder of StopTheHacker. “StopTheHacker is a security startup, that spun off from UCR’s Network and Security lab with the mission to “make the Internet safer one website at a time”, as is their trademark.

This application is being used by scores of people already. Even though the application is at present in beta mode, it’s giving users a great deal of protection as well as the power to manage the ever increasing Facebook spam and malware.

About Stopthehacker:

A well known website security service company, Stopthehacker offers SaaS services to cater to the needs of website owners, administrators and web designers. The technology provided by Stopthehacker is backed by National Science Foundation and has been awarded numerous prizes since 2009. With headquarters in Southern California, Stopthehacker has users and partners at many different locations across the world.

To get more information on Stopthehacker visit Website Hosting)

McAfee recently released a report proving that cyber attacks have significantly increased on infrastructure companies. Most of these attacks involved the extortion of information and malware attempts. McAfee worked in conjunction with the Center for Strategic and International Studies and was based on surveying 200 information technology executives and over 1,000 information technology workers and technicians.

The Survey

The surveying was conducted in the fourth quarter of 2010 and found that almost 70 percent of companies polled faced some type of security threat via mail-ware on a regular basis. The report also unveiled that almost 60 percent of companies had launched security audits and procedures as a result of these attacks.

Organizational Denial

The Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at McAfee stated that too many organizations have the mentality that an attack will not happen to them. If an attack does occur, the company will just pay for it then. Based on the results of the report, this is dangerous thinking and a great way to incur major issues with servers and workstations. Like anything else, it is always best to catch potential problems upstream, before they cause real damage.

Disrupting Critical Infrastructure

The majority of the attacks primarily focus on the disruption of a company’s critical infrastructure. The most recent type of damaging attack is malware called Stuxnet which as affected numerous company’s data acquisition programming and supervisory control. Stuxnet can easily enter systems because of a Microsoft Windows security exploit.

Electric Smart Grids

Also, electric smart grids face a major risk according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office. As a result, the office and independent security consultants have suggested the implementation of stronger, more robust security measures. The report also uncovered that almost one quarter of companies that have enacted smart technologies have not developed security protection for the subsequent grids.

Report Results

The report deduced that the rise in attacks is directly related to the need of companies to always implement the newest technologies and updates without integrating security measures in the process. Therefore, this number would be significantly reduced if organizations enforced all steps during implementation.

Companies need to work smarter and realize that they can be attacked at any given time without the proper protection. Therefore, it appears as if a strong method of relaying this information is through the education of information technology professionals. Hopefully in the future, the experts will listen and protect their company from cyber attacks.

Related posts:

Website Hosting)

The latest trend in the underworld of cybercrime is the sale of exploitation kits with features like web hosting services. Customers pay for the amount of time the exploits are actively infecting systems. These kits provide customers with a variety of exploits depending on their need. Exploits are a series of code that takes advantage of (exploits) the software vulnerabilities of a computer, system or network to upload malware and viruses.

This new business model is for other hackers and cybercriminals who have a problem finding secure, “bulletproof” hosting which is ISP that host malware servers. The exploitation package is intended for cybercriminals who are searching for a large number of hacked computers currently running Microsoft Windows for which they can use to exploit various types of information. Once these machines are hacked, they can be used maliciously to:

Steal personal information

Send spam

Send malware from hacked email addresses

Conduct denial-of-service attacks

Upload viruses

The other main benefit is the low cost. Since cybercriminals are only paying for the amount of time an exploit is active, they can save on the web hosting cost. It is estimated that the exploit service with malware hosting costs between $100 and $200 per month. This is an excellent deal since all aspects are managed by the service provider. When calculating the monthly pay, it is assumed the account is more affordable than personal hosting.

The only requirements are the customer must provide their own malware and hack websites to create redirects to the rogue servers. When an unknowing victim reaches one of the infected websites, an iframe is presented that displays content from these hidden servers that hacks the visitor’s machine with the uploaded exploits. Unfortunately, the user will have no idea this is occurring as the fake site appears to be real.

Up to this point, approximately 8,000 websites have been hacked for this purpose. Some victims have become infected with malware and other files through normal browsing. In addition to the redirects, cybercriminals are also using spam campaigns to draw new potential victims to these infected websites.

Now that cybercriminals have easy access to conduct online tasks with nefarious intent, it is likely the number of cybercrimes will increase in the coming years until countries shut down these web hosts. Unfortunately, once one exploitation kit company is shut down, another one will open up almost immediately.

Related posts:

<a
