Mimecast, a cloud-based email security company, made an announcement on Monday that it will provide migration services to firms, upgrading their systems to Microsoft Exchange 2010 or Office 365, free of charge for six-months. The migration services, as declared in a press release, have been reported to diminish data loss and email downtime during the migration process.

It has been decided that Justin Pirie, the company’s director of communities and content, will reportedly address at the upcoming HostingCon 2011 on Monday, August 8, regarding the responsibilities traditional web hosting companies can employ in the budding cloud market. Mimecast has stated that along with offering constant access to email through all planned and unplanned server downtime, migration services will also thwart off data loss with an additional 58-day email record of all emails.

The company affirms that the live and recorded collection of emails can be retrieved through Mimecast’s webmail mailbox.

“We’re about to witness a surge in email migration as companies look to take advantage of the power and flexibility of Exchange 2010 on premise, or move to Microsoft’s fully hosted email solution, Office 365,” stated co-founder and CEO of Mimecast, Peter Bauer. “However, any migration process has inherent risks which, if not dealt with correctly, can result in email downtime, data loss and security lapses. Mimecast announced that it is providing an Exchange 2010 Readiness Kit for organizations, specifically bearing Exchange 2010 in mind. The Readiness Kit consists of how-to-guides, solution briefs, webinar series and data sheets to help client in planning and troubleshooting migrations.

The partnership of Mimecast with NaviSite, a managed cloud-hosting provider, has been reported for email system migrations.

For its fiscal third quarter, Microsoft’s revenue rose to $16.4 billion from $14.5 billion, a 13 percent increase.

On the other hand, Apple’s revenues for the quarter were at $24.7 billion up from 83 percent in the same quarter in 2010. Analysts are predicting the next quarter revenues to be approximately the same. Apple’s current market value is worth $319.5 billion while Microsoft is at $224.4 billion, almost $100 billion more.

A Comparison of the Two Companies

Apple is a company with a primary focus on hardware while Microsoft play the role of primarily a software developer. Apple is proving to be growing faster in the hardware segment due to the leveraging of its name and image to continue building a large and loyal fan base. These buyers usually pay a premium compared to Windows users.

Apple’s Unrivaled Success

Despite their hardware focus, the company is more of a community developer providing equipment that improves the usage of electronic products for specific applications. Apple has progressed to become the largest and most valuable technology organization in the world. Therefore, success in the electronic industry is based on excellent hardware, a phenomenal ecosystem, a community of users and software that is the glue that binds it together.
