The changes that seem to be planned are interesting, but not ground breaking. Features like facial recognition are already available on some laptops. As for the app store, we are not sure how much a desktop OS will benefit from it. Unless it will allow users to carry their applications effortlessly from one computer to another, it is doomed already.

The visual upgrades, we would hope, are striking. It’s not that Windows 7 doesn’t look beautiful enough, but we just think it’s time Microsoft made some innovations in the UI department. With that being said, we also hope that in its bid to introduce too many features it doesn’t end up creating a mess like it did with Windows Vista.

A lot of big names have already stated that they will launch apps for W7P, and that is a good first step towards assuring users that they won’t be left with no useful apps. The Marketplace (which will be launched soon, with its own payment processor and account system) is designed so that developers will offer only a “Try before you buy” method. This means you get the full application, test it, and buy it if you like it or delete it if you don’t like it. No confusing Lite/Pro apps here. This may be bad for some, but it’s good for the enterprise and consumers who want a clearly regulated marketplace and business model.

For now, I can say that Windows Phone 7 is definitely going to be a serious contender for the mobile OS space, along with Android and iPhone.

With its large touchscreen display, 12 Megapixel camera, the phone should have been the Sony Ericsson’s ultimate weapon for taking the fight to BlackBerry, Android and Apple. Instead the device suffered unusually high failure rates, caused by critical software bugs.
Experts considered it as the worst Sony Ericsson cellphone ever and many major stores withdrew the phone from sale. For now, Sony Ericsson is pinning its hope on the Windows-based Xperia X2, recently launched in January 2010 and also the future X10.
