U.K Police e-Crime Unit Closes More Than 2000 Bogus Online Stores

With the holiday season about to arrive, a huge number of fake online retailer websites are permeating the internet. UK’s metropolitan Police Central e-Crime Unit has initiated crackdown against these deceiving websites and has already shut down more than 2000 fake websites with .co.uk domains; these websites were either offering non-existent or counterfeiting goods.

According to reports, these websites were retailing goods of million pounds and claimed for selling designer goods including GHD, Nike, and Tiffany at deal prices, but in reality these fake goods were made by bogus factories in different corners of the world and according to e-crime Police, customers were also at jeopardy of losing their ID and credit card details and hackers have exploited these details in criminal activities.

PCeU’s Detective inspector Paul Hoare said, “in the run up to Christmas the PCeU will continue to work with Nominet and other registries to disable as many such sites as possible but I would urge customers to take all precautions to ensure they buy from legitimate sites only,”

Police has advised online customers to avoid the use of these deceiving websites as most of their products are either fake or non-existent which never reach to their buyers. Police has also advised online shoppers to always be careful before shopping online and should always purchase via authenticate online retailers.
